FOCUS ROOM

CORPORATE OFFICES & DISTRIBUTION CENTERS

OVERVIEW

A non-bookable room for one to two people.

An escape from the high-energy open workspace. These small, first-come, first-serve rooms provide an enclosed space for solo heads-down work, a private meeting, video call, or in-person collaboration between two people.

Design Goals

  • Visibility from outside allows teammates to see how the room is being used.
  • To avoid long-term individual use, the room should be comfortable for up to two hours. Fully ergonomic seating should not be used.
  • Room designs should be small while still meeting accessibility requirements.

Branding

Focus rooms are kept simple and neutral to provide a non-distracting backdrop for video calls. It is best to avoid content and graphics that are overly dominant, or that create perceptual distortion - or visual vibration - that people might find uncomfortable or disorienting.

Opportunities

  • Brand application is typically limited to accent wall colors, wall graphics, and/or framed archival artwork that is applied to a single wall.
  • Use archival Nike artwork or graphic patterns that have been edited to make them feel more contemporary and relevant to the particular workplace.
  • Identify focus rooms with large-scale focus room number above or near the top of the door (see wayfinding).
