MDF / IDF ROOM

CORPORATE OFFICES & DISTRIBUTION CENTERS

OVERVIEW

Primary point of technology infrastructure connection.

The main distribution frame (MDF) room is the primary room for voice, data and video network equipment, cabling infrastructure, and uninterrupted power supply (UPS). The intermediate distribution frame (IDF) room is a smaller network room to supplement the MDF room when cable runs are longer than 295' (90m).

Design Goals

  • MDF Room: Locate on ground floor or primary Nike floor in a multi-tenant building.
  • IDF Room: Vertically stack an IDF room from floor-to-floor to allow vertical cable paths. Locate between MDF and workspace, on the same floor, as needed.
