DISTRIBUTION CENTERS

WHY

Why the Environment standards are important

At Nike, the Environment provides a space to power our work and support Distribution Centers in delivering millions of Nike Products that reach athletes globally every single day.

Our Environment solutions focus on prioritizing Nike's business needs, enabling the unique ways that work gets done, and connecting employees to each other and to the brand. Nike Distribution Centers have specific differences that must be solved. With 24/7 shift work, lack of natural light / connection to outdoors, KPI pressures and layout challenges that impact productivity, laser focus of the environment has never been more important.

These Environment Distribution Center Standards have been designed to support both business outcomes and the employee experience.

Below are the outcomes that Environment Standards support:

Talent Attraction & Retention

Create 'Uniquely Nike

Environments' that drive

strong brand connection and

establish best- in- class work

conditions for current and

future talent.

Power the Business

Provide the right Supply Chain spaces across all Distribution Centers and drive efficient adjacencies to support productivity.

Catalyst to

Creating Culture

Focus on spaces for employees to connect and build meaningful relationships outside the shopfloor.

Support the Future

Embedding flexibility within

design solutions for minimum

enterprise risk in the event of

focus / technology change.

Environment Principles

In order to achieve the intended outcomes listed above, our Environment Standards will focus on the following principles:

01

Flexible

Maintain a competitive edge

through multi-purpose, lightweight design solutions.

02

Efficient

Everything is designed to

maximize efficiency of

operations.

03

Foundational Components

Attention to environmental

features that make for an

enjoyable place to work.

04

Equitable

Zoning and ratios that ensure

required amenities are within

arms reach for all.

HOW

Applying the Environments standards

In our Distribution Centers we recommend holistic environment solutions that are based on demographics, number of employees per shift, layout opportunities, site restrictions, as well as the specific type of work conducted within the Distribution Center i.e., manual labor based or with higher levels of automation.

The table below outlines how the Standards should be applied across new construction, renovating existing sites or smaller refresh projects.

New Construction

Renovation

Refresh

Criteria

  • Ground up construction or fit out of empty core and shell
  • Renovation scope; building completely new spaces within a existing DC
  • Refresh scope; reusing existing building components to build new spaces within an existing DC

Requirements

  • All Environment Standards
  • All Environment Standards
  • All Environment Standards where relevant

Expectations

  • There may be some exceptions for 3PL owned / operated sites e.g. exterior conditions will vary - to be validated on case by case basis
  • Projects with a short term lease (less than 5 years) are excluded from the Environment Standards

WHat

Environment standards

Regional design teams will provide direction for any specialty spaces that should also be included. These Standards do not dictate the delivery or layout of logistic systems or Material Handling Equipment (MHE).

The Environments standards include the following information, organized by the user journey:

  • Exterior Spaces
  • Arrive & Depart
  • Shared Spaces
  • Office Spaces
  • Shopfloor Spaces
  • Logistics Support (not included within GPS Standards)
