SUSTAINABILITY

CORPORATE OFFICES

SITE SELECTION

Before concept design begins, the first question is whether a relocation is necessary.

Performing a renovation, refresh, or refit on an existing space is usually the option with the least impact on the environment. If a new location will be chosen, how should the team evaluate the different locations with a lens of sustainability? Within this category, we have focused on site specific factors that support Nike goals and will help set the project up for success.

OPTIONAL: LEED Certified Building

  • Locate your project within a LEED (or local equivalent) certified building.

OPTIONAL: Sub-Metering Capability

  • Locate your project in an existing building that is set up such that your project can independently meter energy (electricity, natural gas, etc.) and water consumption.
  • Ensure that energy and water usage is being tracked on all projects.
  • Further instructions on sub-metering requirements are located in the Energy and Water categories.

OPTIONAL: Capability for Nike to Manage Utilities

  • The ability for Nike to manage our own utility bills will provide more transparency and help us track our energy, water and waste usage. By tracking these end uses accurately, we can make sure we are on track to achieve Nike’s sustainability goals.

OPTIONAL: All-Electric (HVAC and Cooking)

  • Electrification is a key-component in decarbonization.

OPTIONAL: HVAC&R with No or Low-Impact Refrigerants

  • Once a building is electrified, refrigerants are the number one source of scope 1 carbon emissions. Selecting a building for your project that has no or low-impact refrigerants can help to drastically lower your project’s carbon emissions.
