BRAND

FUNDAMENTALS

ARTIST PARTNERSHIPS

Innovative and artful interpretations of the Nike brand are a cornerstone of storytelling in the workplace environment. It can be part of a welcoming brand experience at building entrances and key moments inside. Collaborating with artists and artisans to bring inspirational custom artwork to life helps build investment in company culture. Custom collaborations are typically reserved for high-investment or high-profile spaces.

Art installations can take various forms, including:

  • Hand painted wall murals or art pieces
  • Printed wallcoverings or art pieces
  • Sculptures
  • Custom lighting features
  • Time-based, digital art installations

Artist Selection

Artist selection should be thoughtful, ensuring that they are the right fit for the project's design intent. All artist collaborators and commissions must be GPS-approved; the GPS design team provides the brief and art direction.

Artist selection considerations:

  • Geographic connection, cultural relevance, subject matter expertise.
  • Willingness to explore creative style within the boundaries set by Nike.
  • Local brand teams may have connections to artists they've partnered with.
  • The value of working with well-known artists who have a history with Nike, versus local artists with a deeper connection to the area.
  • Opportunities to give representation to diverse artists and promote inclusivity.

Artist Brief

The first step is to document the project needs to potential artists in an Artist Brief, providing the necessary information to ensure a successful collaboration. Artists should reply with their creative and fee proposals.

The Artist Brief should include:

  • Deliverable description (e.g. hand painted wall mural)
  • Direction for the content and aesthetic (e.g. running, abstract, subtle color)
  • Information about the space, including size and photos/renderings if available
  • Stylistic image examples or reference assets
