DISTRIBUTION CENTERS
WATER - LEVEL 2
Water Fixtures
- Comply with LEED prerequisite Indoor Water Use Reduction
- Pursue LEED credit Indoor Water Use Reduction
- Perform an indoor water reduction calculation using the LEED v4 Indoor Water Use Reduction Calculator with the proposed or existing plumbing fixture flow/flush rates to confirm that at least a 30% water use reduction is being achieved over the LEED baseline
- The following flow/flush rates are recommended:
- 0.35 gpm (1.33 lpm) lavatories
- 1.5 gpm (5.67 lpm) showers
- 1.1 gpf (4.16 lpm) toilets/water closets
- 0.128 gpf (0.48 lpm) urinals
- 1.6 gpm (6 lmp) pre-rinsing valves
- 20 gallons per 100 pounds (76 liters per 45.4 kilograms) of ice for ice machines
- Ensure that all applicable fixtures* are WaterSense labeled
NOTE: LEED water credits should be carefully reviewed against local water regulations.
* All faucets and fixtures except public lavatory and service faucets
** Or local equivalent to WaterSense
Water Metering
- Comply with LEED prerequisite Building-Level Water Metering
- Comply with LEED credit Water Metering
- Provide at least one building level water meter that measures the total potable water for the building and associated grounds. Ensure that the meter is connected to the Campus Water Metering platform (e.g. AquaCue) where possible.
- Install permanent water meters for two or more water subsystems:
- Irrigation
- Indoor plumbing fixtures & fittings
- Domestic Hot Water
- Reclaimed Water
- Other Process Water
- Connect with your local sustainability champion to report monthly water use data to for tracking towards targets
Outdoor Water Use
- For projects that have any outdoor space and irrigation within their scope, perform outdoor water reduction calculations using the LEED v4 Outdoor Water Use Reduction Calculator
- If applicable, comply with LEED prerequisite Outdoor Water Use Reduction
- If applicable, comply with LEED credit Outdoor Water Use Reduction and demonstrate at least a 50% reduction in outdoor water use
Appliances
- Ensure that all dishwashers and ice machines are ENERGY STAR rated, or local equivalent
