DC SUSTAINABILITY

DISTRIBUTION CENTERS

SITE SELECTION - LEVEL 2 & 3

OPTIONAL: Sensitive Land Protection

  • Comply with LEED credit Sensitive Land Protection
  • Locate the project on previously developed land OR land that does not meet the criteria for sensitive land
  • Sensitive lands include prime farmland, floodplains, habitat, water bodies, and wetlands
  • Prioritize sites with opportunities to nourish and increase biodiversity
  • Refer to Nike’s DC Location Standards

OPTIONAL: Sub-Metering Capability

  • Locate your project in an existing building that is set up such that your project can independently meter energy (electricity, natural gas, etc.) and water consumption
  • Ensure that energy and water usage is being tracked on all projects
  • Further instructions on sub-metering requirements are located in the Energy and Water category

OPTIONAL: All-Electric (HVAC & DHW)

  • Locate your projects in a building that utilizes electric based HVAC and DHW systems
  • Electrification is a key-component in decarbonization, so priority needs to be given to all-electric systems

OPTIONAL: HVAC&R with No or Low-Impact Refrigerants

  • Once a building is electrified, refrigerants are the number one source of scope 1 carbon emissions. Selecting a building for your project that has no or low-impact refrigerants can help to drastically lower your project’s carbon emissions.

OPTIONAL: Low-Carbon Shipping Route

  • Prioritize sites with low-carbon shipping routes
  • Refer to Nike’s DC Location Standards

OPTIONAL: Regional Energy Grid

  • Prioritize projects on sites with renewable energy sourced in the region, or the ability to produce on site.
  • Refer to Nike’s DC Location Standards

OPTIONAL: Capability for Nike to Manage Utilities

  • The ability for Nike to manage our own utility bills will provide more transparency and help us track our energy, water and waste usage. By tracking these end uses accurately, we can make sure we are on track to achieve Nike’s sustainability goals.

OPTIONAL: Protect or Restore Habitat

  • Comply with LEED Credit Site Development – Protect or Restore habitat
  • Restore 30% of the project site if it is identified as previously developed, using native or adapted vegetation.

OPTIONAL: All-electric (Cooking)

  • Locate your project in a building that utilizes induction-based cooking
  • Electrification is a key component in decarbonization

OPTIONAL: Assessment and Planning for Resilience

  • Comply with LEED pilot credit Assessment and Planning for Resilience
  • Work alongside Nike’s Global Resilience Team to identify and plan around potential site hazards
  • Work alongside Nike’s Business Continuity Team to develop a continuity plan
  • Assess opportunities for site to be independent from external energy grids.
  • Refer to Nike’s DC Location Standards

OPTIONAL: Design for Enhanced Resilience

  • Comply with LEED Pilot Credit Design for Enhanced Resilience
