Truck Lounge

DISTRIBUTION CENTERS

OVERVIEW

A truck lounge serves as a designated area for truck drivers to rest while waiting for cargo loading, unloading, or processing.

Its size, amenities, spatial layout, and location vary globally based on project requirements. For example, in certain RSCs like Rebound, it may consist of a physical cage on the Shopfloor, with only a restroom and no seating area.

The setup depends on the facility's freight handling; if there are numerous live loads, the lounge sees more use. If it's primarily drop loads, truckers drop off one load, collect the next, and leave.

Design Goals

  • Locate at the Gatehouse (integrated or next to) or connected to the Shopfloor building, near or adjacent to trailer docks
  • Position on building perimeter to limit access to Shopfloor if designed as part of the building, (truck drivers aren't given access to secure building spaces)
  • Dependent on the facility and project dependent, may include restrooms, showers, coffee, tea, water facilities, and vending machines
  • Provide a comfortable seating or lounging area for driver breaks while live-loads are processed
  • Incorporate limited branding into this area, ensuring nothing of a sensitive or proprietary nature is on display
  • Consider providing information boards, maps, or digital displays with updates on shipping schedules, traffic conditions, and other relevant information
  • Integrate accessible ramps into the design if needed
