LOCKERS

DISTRIBUTION CENTERS

OVERVIEW

A shared temporary and secure storage space while employees are working on the shopfloor, providing storage for personal items such as shoes, phone, bag etc.

These lockers are sized smaller compared to Changing Room lockers.

Design Goals

  • Locate lockers along the main circulation route near the entrance to the Shopfloor
  • Ensure lockers do not obstruct egress paths and circulation routes
  • Always ensure lockers are lockable
  • Provide a quantity of lockers exceeding typical shift headcount to allow for shift cross-over

Key Components

BIM Folder
  1. Individual locker units
  2. Locking systems (local team to decide type)
  3. Ventilation to locker front door
  4. Rear ventilation to top and base of locker units
  5. Bench seating

REQUIRED SPECIFICATIONS

  • Clearances
    • Clear floor space: 32" x 54" (81.5cm x 137cm) min., front approach of lockers
    • Primary circulation: Allow 72“ (152.5 cm) min. width. Elsewhere, 48” (122 cm) min. width
  • Furnishings

    Lockers

    • Locker size range: 18"W x 12“H (45cm x 30cm) to 19"W x 19“H (50cm x 50cm)
    • Lockers should be lockable, with the locking system determined by project budget and maintenance preference, local team to decide
    • Visibility into locker contents is required for security. Use plexiglass or perforated metal for door fronts
    • Incorporate perforated door fronts or ventilation slots on the front of lockers to allow for ventilation. If lockers are wall mounted provide ventilation openings on the backside of lockers
    • Provide rear ventilation openings at the top and base of locker units
    • Seismic restraints may be required, local code should be followed
    • Provide accessible lockers within reach of 15"-44" (38cm-112cm) height
    • Pulls/handles should be easy to open with a single, flat hand, with no need to pinch, grasp, or twist
    • Some facilities may require additional lockers for safety shoes, see Storage space type for further information
