Gatehouse
DISTRIBUTION CENTERS
OVERVIEW
Positioned at facility entrances or exits, the gatehouse, staffed by security, monitors and controls vehicle, goods, and personnel flow in and out of the Distribution Center.
Activities at Gatehouse include document checks, implementing safety rules, and handling of administrative tasks such as recording arrivals and departures. For 3PL’s and RSC facilities gatehouses may not be Nike-operated or may be shared with another operator. Local team to confirm gatehouse operator and if part of project scope.
Design Goals
- Locate near the facility perimeter for effective monitoring of incoming and outgoing traffic
- Ensure location access is convenient for vehicles entering and exiting the facility, minimizing traffic flow disruptions both internally and externally
- Situate near essential infrastructure like utilities, communication networks, and emergency services for operational support
- Provide adequate workspace and amenities for security personnel including workstation/s, restroom, and a place to make a hot drink
- Design a gatehouse with adequate space for vehicle inspection, documentation verification, and personnel screening (security checks around, above, and under trucks)
- Design for efficient movement of vehicles and personnel
- A truck lounge may be required within the Gatehouse if not located with the DC building (project and operator dependent)
