DISTRIBUTION CENTERS

OVERVIEW

A roofed structure to safeguard employees from wind and rain as they wait for shared modes of transport which include both cross-campus and to-campus transportation.

Design Goals

  • Design space to accommodate both public and Nike-operated transportation
  • Bus shelter should be visible and located near building entrance
  • Provide accessible, intuitive route from building to bus shelter
  • Ensure bus shelter is welcoming, accessible, and safe for everyone
  • Integrate shelter design with the surrounding landscape and architecture

REQUIRED SPECIFICATIONS

  • Finishes
    • Use materials that are durable and weather-resistant
    • OPTIONAL: Where possible, design shelter with sustainable materials/features (i.e. solar panels for lighting)
  • Furnishing
    • Include seating for people waiting for rides
    • Include trash cans and recycling bins
    • Include protection from sun, wind, inclement weather
  • Wayfinding
    • Line of sight or directional signs to the building(s) entrance(s) along an accessible route (particularly at key intersections/decision points) 
    • Display transportation information via digital or physical signage (arrivals/wait times)
  • Technology
    • OPTIONAL: Where possible, link communications with public transport network to provide live arrivals/wait time information at shelter
  • Safety and Security
    • Adequate space for vehicles to on/offboard without disrupting adjacent traffic 
    • Continuous sidewalk or levelled ground for easy embarkment from bus shelter to transport
    • Adequate flat space for buses with wheelchair lifts
    • Non-slip surface in and around space for safety in wet conditions 
    • Install security cameras or other surveillance measures
  • Operations
    • Verify with local team if Nike-operated or public buses should be accommodated on site
